Parenting & Educating The New Children
The New Children will require special parenting and education specifically developed for their needs. They will probably be well ahead of their peers academically and creatively, and can feel isolated and rejected by the Originals in their peer-group. The New Children will still be emotionally immature and will have to go through all the usual emotional stages during their development. They can throw tantrums with a capital T! Some will have problems with speech as they are used to communicating telepathically and some may be dyslexic.
Although The New Children are essentially spiritual beings, do not imagine that they will be pious or docile - quite the reverse. They will be intelligent, imaginative, probing and questioning, and they may challenge all that you hold most dear. They have an uncanny ability to home in on hypocrisy and double standards, and may be outrageous in the way they expose human foibles. All in all, parenting a New Child is going to be a more challenging process than parenting the average child.
The education of the New Children requires careful consideration. These children - especially the multi-talented and meta-gifted Crystal Children - will simply not put up with a rigid and limited educational framework. They will develop more rapidly than the average child, reading sooner and questioning deeper and quicker, and they need a supportive framework for this development to take place in.
We realise that specialist education will not be feasible for most parents and that many New Children have elected to be taught in mainstream education, hard as that might be for them at times, but they do have to learn to mix with mainstream kids. An Indigo can survive (at a pinch) within conventional schooling, but Rainbows, and especially the Crystals, will not thrive in such a restrictive and over-controlling environment. Crystal Children in particular have specific educational needs that are difficult to address within any rigid conventional educational framework. The two systems most suited to Crystal Children are Montessori and Steiner education. Of these, Montessori is the ideal because it is so flexible, holistic and child-centred. Sadly, Montessori education has not yet spread very widely, and more effort is needed in supporting and funding this vital resource. All children are special, and different groups have come in with different talents and skills to do different jobs, but Crystals need to be catered for just as much, for example, as a disabled child.
Joanna writes: 'When I lived in the Western Australian bush, I worked in a kindergarten run on Montessori lines and much later in the UK trained to be a Montessori pre-primary and primary teacher. I have worked in a Montessori school and even had a Montessori school in my own home at one stage. All this background in education and my experience as an early Indigo (remembering a past life and having natural clairvoyance when I was little), helps me to understand the special needs of the New Children. And my work in developing the Starlight Centre has helped me to attune to the very sensitive consciousness of the new children.
I believe that these New Children should NOT be singled out or be told that they are Special from other children (all children are special), but that they have a certain role to play and have different abilities to some other children. I don’t think the gifts of these New Children should be exploited, but should be gently nutured, therefore I do not recommend childhood training in systems such as Reiki, clairvoyance, psychometry, tarot reading etc. However I would like parents and teachers to be AWARE that these children are extremely sensitive and will have gifts and see things very differently from some of their contemporaries. For example I was with a three year old when she went with her mother to the dentist. Whilst we were in the waiting room, she was playing quite happily, but once we went into the dentist’s room, she ran away in terror, screaming over and over “I want to go home, I want to go home”. I knew it was because she had picked up the vibration of fear left by the previous patient as I knew it was not from her mother. Her mother does not have a fear of dentists and was only in for a routine check up, as was the child, who had been perfectly OK on previous visits.
The New Children may well see Auras or “coloured lights” as they call them. They will see that as normal until someone suggests it is not, so explain to them simply about auras but do not start trying to teach a child to see Auras if they do not have this ability.
Many New Children will have memories of past lives, so if they start to talk about these, just treat it as normal and listen to what they have to say. As a child I had to swear never to talk about these things and was told I was making it up, so that really confused me.
Your children probably will have conversations with “Spirit Beings”. Treat this also as being normal and just let them tell you what they are being told, if they want to share this. If they start to have too many visitations from the “Spirit World”, explain that they can tell their visitors to please go away and go elsewhere, but if they have messages for your family they can stay. This actually happened to me, and it was like having a continuous radio playing in my head, giving messages to people I did not even know, but as soon as I asked them to go to the appropriate people, it stopped.
Personally I can not tell the difference between the energy of a “Spirit” or a live person walking behind me and the only way I can tell the difference is by turning around and looking behind me. When I was very young I used to think there were people in my room at night and be very scared. If only someone had explained that I had visitors from the “Spirit world” I would not have been so frightened. So if your child tells you there are people in his or her room that you can not see, please explain about spirit beings.
My children were natural healers, so sometimes they would spontaneously come up and give me healing. Just allow your child to do this, but do not start showing them how to heal to a certain system - they will no doubt bring in some new ways of healing. Of course if they are older, in their teens and they ask to learn from you, that is fine.
From an early age teach them that most things are possible, that most things given a chance will heal, so you do not squash their belief/trust. So many of us do not heal because we are taught that it is not possible. Obviously if what they say is totally bizarre it needs to be discussed. If there is a need for some first aid and medical advice, take it, you need to use common sense as well.
As these children grow up, observe, listen, learn from them. Answer their questions honestly at the level of their understanding and if they ASK to have their gifts expanded, go with this. Teach children to remember the source within themselves, that the truth is within them, not outside. Teach or show them some form of meditation, so they can contact their own inner truth and get their own answers for themselves. Honour these answers. Ask them what they feel they should do about any difficulties they encounter, rather than tell them what you think they should do. Empower them like this so they learn to trust their inner knowing.
Please allow them to have their childhood.'
